Contribution to Borrow a Brick for Contact Listening by Joy Zhou
Walking tour// interactive performance art
Borrow a Brick for Contact Listening is a program produced and curated by artist Joy Zhou.
Joy invited Justine Walsh, Ceri Hann, and myself to each create one walking tour in response to the prompt: 'Listen'
I responded to this prompt by creating a walking tour that heavily relied on ✨numbers✨
First, we held a community activation inviting members of the Abbotsford Convent to count the number of small repeating patterns on objects around the Abbotsford Convent, like the number of grains on a plank of wood, the number of alphabets on the 'Thank You to our Supporters' board, and the number of dots on a patterned window pane.
Then, we linked these numbers to very useful random facts.
For example...
Did you know that there are 892 pebbles on this tile we are pointing at
Which is also...
The product code of a two-button remote control designed for garage door openers and gate operators -the LiftMaster 892LT!
More stories, facts, and laughter were shared using the #of tiny repeating patterns as a point of departure.
Borrow a Brick for Contact Listening was awarded the Best in Words & Ideas Award, and nominated for Best Work By An Emerging Artist Award and Spirit of the Fringe Award! 🏆🏆🏆
